Step 1
Meandering Photo Lines is a visualization of a photo archive based on place and time. Photos are grouped using the date and the places where they were taken. The archive can be explored in two layouts: a chronological grid of visited places or a vertical path, connecting all visited places chronologically to one journey. Use the button or the slider in the top right corner to switch between these layouts.
Step 2
In the grid view, each circular map represents one group of photos from a trip or time period. The points on the map show the places where photos were taken, and the line between them shows the order of the journey. The green side of the path marks the beginning. Hovering over a tile shows preview images. The grid layout can be adjusted by changing grouping, tile size, and the tile background. Click a tile, use the button, or move the slider to switch to the journey arrangement.
Step 3
In the path arrangement, the grid tiles are arranged and connected into one vertical journey path. Scrolling down lets you follow the journey from place to place. The globe shows the current location. In the moment the globe passes a new location in the path, for each visited place, a preview photo and one of the most common keywords emmerge from the path. The timeline on the left shows when photos were taken and can also be used for navigation. Hovering over points reveals the map, and clicking the path or the label of a place opens the photo series for that place. The globe follower with the map can be resized by dragging green circle around it.
Step 4
Use filters to focus on keywords associated with the photos. In the grid arrangement, this helps reveal patterns of topics across time and places. When switching to the path arrangement, the journey path is rebuilt so that it only follows places that match the selected keyword.
